Having a space to make, creative, to be quiet, away from any outside distractions I find so important.... and this is very hard when I have next to no space, but it's all about making the most of the space that I have!
I live in a small terrace house on a busy main road and the second bedroom is about 2.5 x 3 metres this room has everything in it... my belongings, my clothes, camera equipment, art/ craft supplies and everything else. It's a squeeze and most of my things are packed away including most of my clothes. Everything is carefully tucked away and about as organised as it can be. I have too much stuff for this space!
If you look at my social media links you will see I run 3 Etsy shops (I know.... It's too much, but everything I do is much the same. I can't focus on one thing at a time. I'm waiting for an ADHD assesment!) All Etsy supplies are also carefully organised in this room, which I have to be able to access at all times, and those red paper bags... full of vintage hats ready to part with on my Ebay.
I love watching Studio Tour videos on Youtube, and always look on with some envy at these big, bright spaces with everything perfectly organised in huge shelves and drawers, but there is always something off about them... most of them are shown just after they have been reorganised and cleaned.... and showing you mine after a tidy up! It isn't a studio, but it's a studio space and it's what I have to work with. In a dream scenario I would have a lovely insulated summer house with plenty of glass, heated in winter, away from houses in a beautiful garden. I can see it in my imagination right now!
Secondly, the key to having a small space to work with is having as few art & craft supplies as possible and this is the worst! I have far too many interests and things I want to do, but I can't have more than I have. I have enough really.... but is there ever that feeling when you are an arty/crafty person? Nope. I can't go to Range and look around because I will leave with stuff, and ideas and possibilities! Let alone going to a Hobbycraft, which I have never been to but I don't think it would be a good idea because I would get too inspired!
I am going to try something new, which is sharing more. This was the first step! I am also going to start livestreaming creative projects. I am undecided if this will be on Twitch or Youtube, but will add it when I work it out.
All the best,
Winnie
